I was so sorry to learn about Peg. She will be fondly remembered.

I appreciate your comments Carol. The study does not feel the same without her - perhaps because I can now think and not get distracted by her grunts when she was dreaming of chasing squirrels or snoring.

How sad, truly sad. After 17 years, Peg was a member of the family indeed . . . a person in a dog suit! I'm sorry for your loss, Kate. May the following bring you some small comfort.

A Little Dog Angel

High up in the courts of heaven today
A little dog angel waits;
With the other angels he will not play,
But he sits alone at the gates,
"For I know that my master will come,"says he,
"And when he comes he will call for me."

And his master far on the earth below,
As he sits in his easy chair,
Forgets sometimes, and he whistles low
For the dog that is not there:
And the little dog angel cocks his ears
And dreams that his master's call he hears.

And I know that at last when his master waits
Outside, in the dark and cold
For the hand of death to open the gates
That lead to those courts of gold,
The little dog angels' eager bark
Will comfort his soul in the shivering dark.

Marilyn, thank you for such a heart warming poem. I am sure that Peg is up there organising the red setter and gordon setter who also shared her life with us. She may have been half their size but she knew she was their boss and outlived them both by several years.
